A modern day tale of making a fortune in the world of oil drilling in West Texas

A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a go-between for exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they manage the land and secure the lease so that they can drill for oil and gas.

Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, man-camps, assemble drilling equipment, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also part-time fixers, problem solvers, and managers. It’s a TV formula, but written by a writer we’ll remember in a few decades like Norman Lear does now. It seems the difference here is geography.
Inappropriateness in the mother-daughter-father-family dynamic?
It’s another Western series and it’s brilliant marketing combined with fine performances by high-quality actors. Accuracy issues in the oil industry? Obviously. Yes.
Larter gives a top-notch performance and looks phenomenal
Does that mean none of this plays out the same way in real life? No big deal, it’s a dynamic production and fun to watch. Thornton is meant for the role, although I read that it was written just for him at the beginning. Lots of interesting stuff, except that the only oddity is Demi Moore being mentioned in all 10 episodes.
If not, I’ll wonder what the point is
I’ve seen all 5 that have aired so far, and unless it’s just me, I remember seeing and hearing her only once or so, in her swimming pool, for a brief moment. Hamm’s character isn’t seen that much either, but he’s well-acted and he nailed his character, but Moore just hasn’t been allowed to add anything so far. Maybe that’s how it’s written and she’ll play the role in later episodes.
